Islamic Culture Research Foundation was founded in 2007 and brings together members of scientific and academic societies that study various aspects of Islamic culture, science and philosophy. Its founders are: S.M. Prozorov, professor of the St. Petersburg department of the institute of the Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of sciences, Mr. Hamid Hadavi, doctor of philosophy and Mehdi Imanipoor, Tegeran's University lecturer and the head of IRI Cultural Centre  from 2003 to 2007. The main directions of the Foundation activities are literature translation into Russian and other languages of the world, publishing books and cooperating with different Russian and foreign research centers, sponsoring researches, organizing scientific and cultural conferences, symposiums, exhibitions; arranging cultural exchange programs between the world renowned research centers and universities.

 

The basic principle of any research undertaken by the Foundation is the concept of an objective scientific analysis of a problem related to Islamic culture and Islamic thought studies. Islamic culture is an important part of the world culture, as well as a constituent of Russian civilization. Unbiased Islamic culture research plays an important scientific, political, and strategic role in maintaining interfaith and inter-civilizational balance and promoting understanding between nations, cultures, and civilizations.

 

The Foundation initiated a number of educational programs, in particular, series of lectures in the history of Islamic philosophy at the Institute of philosophy, Russian Academy of Sciences based, read by leading Russian and foreign experts in this field. The Foundation also takes part in organizing the International Conference "Russia and the Islamic world" (23-24th of June in 2008, 26-27th of June in 2010). The Foundation also plans to arrange placement of Russian universities students, majoring in Islamic studies and orientalism, in the world renowned research centers and universities.

 

 

Founders:

 

Stanislav M. Prozorov - Acting head of the Middle and Near East department, Deputy Director of Science at the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts (RAS),  Candidate of Sciences (equiv.Ph.D.) - History 

 

Born on January 21, 1938 in Voronezh. In 1961 he graduated from the Faculty of Oriental Studies at Leningrad State University, with a Major in history of the Arab countries. From 1961 to 1964 worked in Dushanbe (Tajikistan) in the Department of Oriental Studies at the Institute of History of the Tadjik Academy of Sciences; taught History of Arabic Countries in the Institute department of history and philology. In 1964 started his postgraduate studies at the Leningrad department of the Institute of Oriental Studies, the Academy of Sciences of USSR and upon its completion in1967 was offered a position in this Institution.   In February 1971 he defended his PhD thesis in history of Shia Islam: Al-Hasan ibn Musa al-Nawbakhti. "Shiite sects" (Study, Translation, Commentary). Since 1980 - head of the cross-sectoral Islamic Studies group at the Leningrad (now Saint-Petersburg) department of the Institute of Oriental Studies, director of Islamic studies workshop, since 1987 - Senior Researcher, since 2004 - member of the editorial board of academic journal Written Monuments of the Orient, since 2005 - Deputy Director of Science and the Vice-Chairman of the Academic Council at the St. Petersburg Institute of Oriental Manuscripts of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), the institute official website supervisor.

All Prozorov's scientific work and publications are concerned with the history of the "classical" of Islam. The main directions of his research — Historiography and Source Study of early and medieval Islam, the History and Ideology of Shia Islam, Islamic Dogmatics, Ideological Movements and Differences in Islam, Islam as a Religious System, the Arab-Muslim Manuscript, Islam in Russia. Among his monographs - annotated translations and studies of historical and theological writings of early and medieval Arab authors (Al-Nawbakhti, al-Shahrastani, al-Fakhri), Shi'a historiography in Iraq, Iran and Central Asia (from VII to the middle of the X century) Islam as an ideological system. A number of collective works (academic reference books, collections of articles, programs and manuals) prepared and published under the supervision and with direct participation of S.M. Prozorov. Among them: Islam. Encyclopedic Dictionary (Moscow, 1991); Islam. Historiographical Sketches (M., 1991), An Anthology of Islam (M, 1994); Islam on the territory of the former Russian empire. Encyclopedic dictionary. Issues 1-4. (M., 1998-2003).

S. M. Prozorov — participant in international conferences and symposia on Islam, all-Union coordination meetings on contemporary Islam issues, all-Union Arabists conferences, Bartold's readings, etc.

Teaching experience: developing and reading lectures on "Islam and the Arab-Muslim culture (Faculty of the world culture history at the State Academy of Culture)," Introduction to Islamic Studies"," Islam as religious system "(Faculty of Asian and African Studies of SPSU, Institute of Religious and Philosophical studies, Russian Institute of Christianity and Humanities, Dept. of religious studies at the State Russian Herzen Pedagogical University).

Personnel training: supervisor of BA (final year) and MA students, interns and PhD candidates.

His work "Islam as ideological system" won the “book of the year” award in 2006.

 

 

 

 

Hamid  Hadavi Moghaddam– President of the Islamic Culture Research Foundation

 

 

Education and research interests:

 

1981 - 2004: had been studying and carrying out his research at the Islamic seminary of Qom IRI.

 

1989 – 2003: had been teaching Islamic studies (Islamic law, ʻ ilm al-usul, Islamic logic and philosophy) in various spiritual-educational centers and universities of Iran.

 

In 2000 he defended his MA thesis entitled "Jewish Eschatology". 

 

In 2005 began his postgraduate studies at the Institute of Philosophy of RAS,  Moscow.

 

In 2007, became a co-founder of Islamic Culture Research Foundation, and up till now he is the head of the Foundation.

 

Participant in numerous Islamic international conferences.

 

Author of academic articles in Islamic philosophy (published) by various scientific Russian publishers.

 

 

 

 

Muhammad Mahdi Imanipur was born in 1965 in Teheran in Iran. Has obtained a PhD in Islamic Studies ( Fiqh and Usul ).

 

Education and research interests:

-For 14 years had been studying Islamic sciences (undergraduate and postgraduate) at the Islamic seminary  of Qum (IRI), where he defended his PhD thesis

-expert in international cultural affairs

-Lecturer and researcher in Islamic law and Kalam , cultural and strategic issues mentor

-Deputy Head of the international non-governmental organization "Ahl al-Beit"

- The initiator of establishing the NGO "Al-Bayt al-Muslim,"

Member board of the International Iranian Studies founders

-Executive director and chief editor of monthly magazine "The West in the mirror of culture", magazine "Cultural World", and magazine "Iran Today"

- Director General of Cultural Affairs of the European and American Sector at the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization

- Deputy Director for International Affairs at the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization 

- A cultural representative of the IRI in the Russian Federation (2003-2007)

- Founder of the Regional Center of Persian language Research at IAAS MSU

- Member of the International Diplomatic Academy in Russia

- Chairman or scientific Secretary of the events, such as the 1st and 2nd  meeting of the World Assembly "Ahl-Beit", with the participation of over 400 foreign guests; international seminar "Russia and the Islamic world"; international seminar "justice and globalization"; Conference "Iran – tradition and ways of development"; International Conference "Russia and Iran: a dialogue of cultures"; Global Summit "the Prophet of Islam – the messenger of peace and friendship"; congress "modern Iranian philosophy", etc.
