In the Moscow Islamic Institute a meeting has recently taken place between its principal, Damir Khayretdinov, and the Iranian delegation that included Seyed Mahmoud Nabawian, deputy head for cultural affairs of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of thought, and Muhammad Hussein Taheri Akerdi, director of project planning department of the research centre under the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of thought. Hamid Hadavimogaddam, president of the Islamic Culture Research Foundation, partner of the MII in a number of projects, also attended the meeting to express his support of the idea of proximity of Islamic madhhabs and cultural exchange.

Damir Khairetdinov informed the guests about the work of the Moscow Islamic Institute, and the representatives of the Iranian side told about the activity of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of thought. The meeting participants also discussed the current condition of Russian Muslims, development of Islamic education in Russia, prospects of interfaith dialogue and possible joint projects.

According to the press service of the Moscow Islamic Institute, an agreement on several important aspects was reached during the meeting, including joint publication of the international magazine “Minaret of Islam”, book publication, conducting conferences in different Russian cities, conducting courses on interfaith dialogue for Russian imams, internship for the students of Islamic universities in Iran etc.
