Ibn Sina Foundation delivers a presentation at the 11th International Symposium "Maqamat in the History of Islamic Civilization: Connections and Interactions"

On the first day of the 11th International Symposium of the Maqam Research Group of the International Council for Traditional Music (ICTM) Andrey Lukashev, research director of the Ibn Sina Foundation, delivered a presentation. He spoke about the Foundation’s activities, including publication of the latest book novelties, and shared their plans for resuming internships in Iran. Andrey Lukashev also provided information about the developing media projects of Ibn Sina Foundation, such as a series of interviews with the leading Orientalists and Islamic scholars, "Verbal history" and "Islam in the Mirror of Science".

The 11th International Symposium "Maqamat in the History of Islamic Civilization: Connections and Interactions" started on November 11 and will end on November 13, 2021. Due to unfavorable epidemiological situation in the country the event is taking place online. Scholars and experts from Russia, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Iran and other countries are participating in the event.

In 1988-2018 the Maqam Research Group of the International Council for Traditional Music held 10 international symposia on classical music of the Islamic world - maqamat (in Berlin, Tampere, Istanbul, Samarkand, Urumqi, Baku, Sarajevo, Ankara, Shaki) with the participation of different scientific and educational organizations. This year Russia (Saint Petersburg) is hosting the 11th Symposium for the first time. The symposium is hosted by the Russian Institute of Art History and organised by the Instrument Department of the Russian Institute of Art History.
