The secretariat of the regional book award of the Year of Islam and Iran in Russian-speaking countries is holding the first regional contest to present major books about Islamic and Iranian studies in the following nominations: preparation, translation, and creation of academic and critical publications of classical texts published in Russian in 2014-2015 in Russia and CIS countries.
Topics and book selection criteria
1. Each of two main topics (Islamic studies and Iranian studies) includes the following dimensions:
А. Books on Islamic studies: history of Islam and Islamic civilization; studies of the Qur'an and hadiths; Islamic theology and philosophy; Islamic mysticism, law, economics; modern Islamic research, literature, architecture, art, history of Islamic science etc.
B. Books on Iranian studies: history of Iran, history of Iranian languages, geography of Iran, ancient religion of Iran, Persian literature, Iranian art and architecture, history of Iranian science, ethnography, translations of classical Iranian books.
2. The selected book must have the following features:
А. Creativity and originality in terms of presenting Islamic and Iranian research.
B. Cultural value, compliance with research criteria, being based on foundational sources.
C. The translated books must comply with with the main criteria for translation into Russian.
D. Academic and critical texts must contain necessary comments and explanations and present different variants of manuscripts' readings.
E. The book’s volume and content must be balanced; the chapters, materials, technical and reference matter, scholarly apparatus and editorial revision must be adequate and consistent.

The authors of the selected books will participate in the ceremony that will take place in Moscow.
If an author takes the first prize at the regional contest in both sections (Islamic and Iranian studies), he will automatically become a laureate of the World book award of the Year in Iran without having to participate in the judge contest in Iran. In that case the winner will not get a money prize at the regional level. Otherwise the reward will be USD 5000 for the author who takes the first place, USD 3000 for the second, and the USD 2000 for the third.
